More Box Madness

I cannot help myself here!!! More box madness! ( Oh and don't mind the mess!!! I am crafting and organizing- really a bad mix! Oh and food plates WTH!) I used Mod Podge, scrap book paper ( again my favorite tehe), and an old Avon box I had with paperwork in it ( which I condensed and placed in a shoe-box to store! Ah felt good to shred things like crazy this morning!).

I have no idea how to edit video so I have two videos! Hope ya'll don't mind! So here is my improved box:

Lexxy's Awesome Box Tutorial!

Now I know this type of tutorial is all over the internet

 but who says I can't post what I have created, mew =^.^=

So here are the supplies you need. I had some pieces of cardboard sitting in the closet just waiting to be  turned into a box I originally use them as abstract artworks- I had then hanging in the bedroom when I was single ( that was 5 years ago!  lol! So there is another quick idea for you.
Supplies:
glue,
double sided tape,
box cutter ( if needed)
laminating sheets if you want to completely cover the box
packing tape
Scrapbook paper ( I love scrapbook paper !)

Trim off excess edges of the box to fit the scrapbook paper size - go slowly or use a sheet you don;t care about snipping into

Apply glue or double sided tape to the cardboard

Place paper on the cardboard and press until secure- cover both sides of the cardboard  and then tape together

 When you tape the pieces all together  it should look like this ( outside of the box)

Tape the sides together- do this a few times

THE INEXPENSIVE SOAP DISPENSER/BOTTLE

Once upon a time...

I had a pretty glass soap dispenser in the bathroom. It was a lovely olive green with a bronzed top to complete it. Then I moved to Georgia, a slightly more humid land than that of Hawaii. It ended up getting build up of calcium and rust often- even after cleaning it daily.

The summer time here is harsh. Needless to say my lovely soap dispenser is no more the bronze top became brittle and broke- such is life... we had a lovely funeral for it though. Now I simply stick to the most inexpensive soap bottle. BUT  truth be told I cannot stand the labels and how bland the soap containers look so I decided to give them a make over.

Depending on the shape of the bottle you will need to cut  it out  of the paper after stenciling or using a ruler for measurments/ straightness- mine was a Soft Soap- So I did the round stencil

You will need a sheet of letters from scrap paper or even stickers though I suggest paper since you can slather on the glue and easily move it around when placing it just in case you don't align it properly

I used the corkscrew scissors- you can use whatever scissor you like. Trace the circle ( or whatever shape) and cut out. After you do this laminate and trim. You can also use tape. I suggest making cuts in the tape to fit to the form of the circle if you are using this design. I left the back blank. 

the bottle is wiped down and free of all soap residue. 

You will need a hot glue gun to apply the label. Apply the glue and then press the  label on. If some of the edges do not stick you can apply a small amount and press lightly. Be careful! No burnt fingers.. if any glue is stuck around the edging just remove once it has cooled down by scraping it off.

The finished product for the guest bathroom- I  am going to be changing the decor from red  to something a bit more fitting for spring! 

My Craft For Sunday- recycle containers

My project for today is cleaning the kitchen ( bleck! Hate dishes with an undying passion I might mention), but I am also doing a bit of recycling and reusing with some plastic containers.

Supplies:

Hot glue gun & hot glue sticks
Clean plastic container
Scrapbook paper ( because it's pretty!!!)
laminating sheets or packing tape depending on what you have available or it you want to go and buy supplies
Paper trimmer ( slicer)
Scissors

First is first I always make sure to rinse out the containers and dry them completely. Instead of using dish soap ( too many suds- wasted water) I usually put a small of bleach in there and  fill, let sit five minutes and then rinse with hot water.

The next step is figuring out how the paper is going to fit on the bottle or container.

Here is the paper covered with packing tape- it is what I had and I wanted to do something crafty today

Covering a large Arizona Green Tea gallon container

Use the scissors and the paper trimmer ( helps to create perfect edges) s the paper fits the container. For this particular project I simple just covered the labeling that is already on it with paper I liked. You can place tape all the way across the front and the back.. press out air pockets and make sure to seal up the edges. Since this is going to be used for liquid you want to make sure that the paper doesn't get wet. Also of course there is laminating paper- easier than the tape- but still up to you on buying it or using what you have.

After I do this I heat up the glue gun and apply the glue onto the container ( no worries no melting action). I press the covered paper onto the container - keep pressing and molding the paper to the container if it is slightly round ( like the Arizona Tea ones). Do around the edges, one by one if needs be to make sure it is secured. Be careful with the glue and have old magazine paper or newspaper or even old envelopes handy to wipe off excess glue after pressing( while it is warm) I press with the finger tips and closely watch the edges. Once the glue has cooled you can scrap off whatever glue is left over and TA DA!!!!! A container that is reused, and personalized.

The Green Dress Revamp- 1.0

So here we are folks! The beginning of the restyling of my green aloha dress, I used the rotary cutters for a clean cut
I removed the top portion of the dress... 

This shirt has mini holes near the neckline- I figured it would be perfect to use for the top part of the dress

I decided to use the sleeves but reshaped them- I removed them completely from the shirt
for a reason- ( stains- gross- but yeah white shirts and hot weather- and the shirt  is 6 years old!)

this is how I will plan to sew it... I wanted the back nice and open just like the front ( tattoo between shoulder blades)

If you want to see what the dress looked like before this post check out "Revamp" to see the latest items I will be restyling. I am liking this little project of mine. I will give you all the sewing details in the next post. As you can see it is quite easy to take something from your closet and turn it into something completely new. If you have a similar dress like this and an old top you can do this too!

when I cut the dress I made sure not to touch the previous sewing that was around the bust area ( for now). I need to do some seam ripping on the side seams so I can easily sew the top white portion to it ( I also will most likely need to take some fabric in so it fits the waist the better).

My tips for this sort of thing are to get a few sewing books, read and read. Then of course practice on small things like squares and even pillow cases ( if you are new to sewing). When I took Fashion Sewing Techniques, I learned hand stitches as well. We also practiced sewing a circle with spirals so we could gain control for the curves when sewing clothes.

There are ways to make things more simple on yourself ( like minus the sleeves) too. So just have at your closet and get creative. I am not the best seamstress but I love to create things. Pace yourself, go slow, and have some fun is my best advice.

Also your projects may not turn out to be sewing perfection, but don't start over ( unless it's like insanely crooked) or give up. It is better to see where the mistake was. Study it and figure out what you did wrong so next time it won't happen.

Revamp

Right now my latest crafty project is revamping clothes in the closet. So far I have chosen a few dresses to restyle and am working on getting the materials needed this is not an easy project for me. Most of my old clothes are too small for me and I can't do much with them. This project might span over the coming months. I am I'm the midst of losing weight and almost want to wait to revamp some other clothing items. The dresses I am not too worried about. I will be making changes to the bust area mostly. My current weight is 212 my bust is 42 inches.. When I was 160 pounds my bust was 40 inches.. So I figure since there is not a big difference in the bust circum. I can totally get away with revamping the dresses.

This green dress is going to get a new top part added I want to do a solid dark green and add chunky straps

Going to use this brown shirt to creat the top part of the this yellow dress the bust does not fit me it is too small
